Barn Owl....but not quite!

Here a few pictures taken at Moor Lane, Maulden, Beds of a Little Owl. This little chap lives in an old barn and was a real treat to see! However it was after 4.45pm so light wasn't on my side, hence the slightly poor pictures, great to see though and i will definitely go back to see him again! Enjoy!

East Hyde

Spent a brilliant day at East Hyde near Luton today. I was joined by many birdwatchers and photographers all hoping to glimpse a Firecrest, i don't think anyone left dissapointed! Here are the pics!

Firecrest - not the greatest of images but pleased to get something!

Little Owl

This Grey Heron was a monster! He didn't mind people watching him as he hunted for both Vole and Frog, greedy sod!

Vole for the Main Course....

Make sure you drown it first

Frog for Dessert!

Gotta Love Little Owls!

Have enjoyed the last year trying to spot our local Little Owls, i hope this year will bring lots more sightings! Myself and Adam (who also a Blog -
have been inspired by Paul Riddle's search of 100 Leicester Little Owl sites and are keen to find more sites in the Herts/Beds area to add to our current list (so far we've seen birds in Hitchin, Arlesey, Pegsdon Hills and Ickleford and know of some more places to try looking!).

Anyways, here are a few of my Little Owl pics from last year! Enjoy!

Wonderful Waxwing and Welney Whoopers

Enjoyed a superb and sunny day on Wednesday which began at my local patch in Hitchin, Herts but ended in Norfolk at Welney WWT. After leaving Hitchin i simply had to go and try spot a local-ish Waxwing in Stretham, Cambridgeshire. It was a brilliant sight and i couldn't stop taking pictures!

This Mistle Thrush was the only one that didn't appreciate the Waxwing, it repeatedly chased it off!

Here is the fella in question, a stunning bird and very confiding...

Afterwards i drove to Welney just over the border in Norfolk encountering this massive Wood Pigeon flock

And a very confiding Kestrel...

Welney was superb for photography, the Pochard and Whooper Swans made great subjects, enjoy...
