Smooth Snake re-introduction

Some really interesting news today regarding the UK'S rarest reptile - the Smooth Snake (Coronella austriaca). It's 1 of 3 snakes we have in this country (the others being Grass Snakes and Adders) and is only found in around 4 counties down near the south coast. They are re-introducing it into Devon which is great news and these introductions will continue for years to help boost numbers etc, all sounds great! Green Woodpecker at last!

I really like Green Woodpeckers but everytime i try to get a decent snap of them they fly off way before i get anywhere near them! It's annoying! Anyways, about 2 weeks ago one of these guys decided to land on the school playing field across from my house which was a result. For the past 2 weeks it's been making lots of noise and digging up worms in the centre of the field which is great, but still not close enough for me to get any sort've decent picture. But finally today he made his way over to one of the trees near to my house and i managed to get these pics, not brilliant but my best to date and i am happy! Thank you woody!

Morning at Fowlmere

Went out this morning with Adam to Fowlmere RSPB Reserve. Not many decent photos but spottings included 2 male Bullfinches, A female Roe Deer with 2 young, Green Sandpiper, Little Wren's, Sedge and Reed Warblers and a family of Red Legged Partridges that we saw in a field on the way out. Here are some ok-ish pictures....

First Blog! - Reptile Rescue!

After work yesterday myself, Roger and Vicky were asked to remove an "adder" from a families garden near to where we work. Sceptical that it was actually an adder we went along and as expected it was a grass snake which after being picked up did the usual feign death and musk everywhere trick. Anyways, i took it away with me and got some pictures before releasing in a suitable site. He was really well behaved and gave me some excellent pictures, it was my first grass snake so i was really happy....here they are!
